One person has died from the fire, according to the New Mexico Governor's Office
The South Fork Fire has grown to more than 13,900 acres and is at 0% containment. That update from the New Mexico Forestry Division came Tuesday morning, June 18.

The state Forestry Division also stated approximately 500 structures have been lost with multiple other structures being threatened. The state Forestry Division is also concerned with increasing winds pushing the fire toward the east.
New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham made the decision to declare a State of Emergency for the South Fork and Salt Fires. The executive order was put into effect Tuesday morning, June 18.
The village of Ruidoso is under evacuation orders for the South Fork Fire. The Village says residents should evacuate immediately and not take any belongings or try to protect their homes.
The evacuation route is on Sudderth Drive to Highway 70 and out to Roswell.
The fire started Monday afternoon near Mescalero at South Fork Canyon. It has burned at least 13,921 acres, according to the New Mexico Forestry Division on Tuesday morning.
The Ruidoso Convention Center is no longer taking new evacuees. Officials are opening an evacuation center in the gym at the Roswell campus of Eastern New Mexico University. Capitan High School and Carrizozo High School are also open for evacuees.
Large animals and people with campers can go to the Eastern New Mexico State Fairgrounds or the Lea County Fairgrounds. Pets can go to the Humane Society of Lincoln County for emergency boarding.
Power is out in parts of the Village. PNM reports more than 2,200 people are impacted. They say the outages in Ruidoso were at the request of first responders.
The Mescalero Apache Tribe has opened an evacuation center in the Community Center for reservation residents. Livestock be taken to the Mescalero Rodeo Grounds. The reservation is closed. Gate guards have been posted.
An additional shelter has been opened at the Inn of the Mountain Gods Convention Center. Mescalero Apache officials say that shelter is open to both tribal and non-tribal people.
U.S. Highway 70 is closed south of the Village of Ruidoso. The closure starts at the State Road 244 intersection, according to New Mexico State Police.
State Highway 48 is closed. Lincoln County Sheriff Michael Wood says the closure starts at Alpine Village and runs to State Highway 220.
It begins four miles east of Mescalero and ends two miles east of Carrizo at mile marker 258. State police are advising people to seek an alternative route and to use caution.
The village of Ruidoso reports hot ash falling in parts of Alto and along Airport Road. They are asking anyone who sees hot ash spots or an active fire to call 911.
Several fire agencies and aircrafts will be working the fire. Fire suppression efforts are by air only due to dangerous conditions to firefighters on the ground.
The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
