Photos and Story By Ken Hulsey
Yesterday, Terri and I had a magical day. After days of eager anticipation, it finally snowed 2-3 inches here in Alexandria, Louisiana - a rare and wondrous occurrence. Earlier in the week, weather reports had predicted up to 9 inches of snow, and we had both been hoping for that epic winter wonderland. Alas, the storm system veered south, blanketing areas like Lake Charles, Lafayette, and Baton Rouge in blizzard-like conditions instead. While we were a bit disappointed, we remained overjoyed and grateful for the snowfall we did receive. Snow in Louisiana is as scarce as a unicorn becoming president - a once-in-a-generation event. As transplants from other parts of the country, Terri and I have long missed the white stuff, having not experienced anything like this for at least seven years.
The conditions were too treacherous for us to venture out too far, but we explored the neighborhood multiple times, drinking in the magical scene and of course snapping a few photos to preserve the memory. This morning, I braved the 20-degree chill to walk among the crunching, icy remnants, smiling at the nostalgic sounds and sights. I love winter, and this was as wintery as it gets around here. I only wish the snow could have stuck around longer, but I'm simply thankful to have been blessed with the chance to experience it again.
