There is one rule about California eateries, you can never judge them on how they look. As a general rule it is the hole in the wall places that have the best food. Think about it like this, if a restaurant has been in the same location for decades odds are the food is going to be darn good.
Such is the case with Taco Treat in Arcadia, California. From the outside it doesn't look like much. The family owned taco stand inhabits a tiny building that is so small there are no places to sit inside since 1969, though the actual structure dates back to 1953. No one knows what it was before it became Taco Treat. From the design it looks like it may have been an ice cream shop or something like that.
I have to admit up front that even though the joint is named Taco Treat I have actually never had a taco from here. I know that sounds kinda crazy but let me explain. Yes the place has the name taco right up front, but this restaurant is known to locals for their fried burritos.
Now there are two types of these deep fried culinary delights. One is the bean and cheese and the other is the beef and cheese. Honestly you can't go wrong with either of them. Each one is a trip straight to Mexican Food Heaven. The joy doesn't end there however, there is a bonus in the form of cups of homemade hot sauce. Add a little bit of the stuff to each bite and the whole experience goes to another level.
Here are some online reviewers experiencing Taco Treat for the first time.
This guy proves my point. He thought the tacos were good but it was the burrito that made an impression.
Warning - this one has some colorful language.
