The ride opened at the park on March 18, 1967, three months after Walt Disney’s death, and it was the last ride that Walt himself participated in designing. Originally, it had been conceived as a walk-through wax museum, but given the success of the boat ride for It’s a Small World, they decided to use the same system here.
These photos were taken by Ralph Crane for LIFE Magazine, likely just before the ride opened to the public as engineers look to be adjusting the robots’ animatronics and artists appear to be adding finishing touches.
