In honor of Godzilla: King of the Monsters being featured on Svengoolie tonight I decided to pull off a mega post of many of my movie stills from the film. These were used to advertise the movie inside theaters while it was being exhibited.
A perfect example of this is the photo above, which is actually my favorite Godzilla movie still because of its rather unique composition, in this image you have a photo of Tokyo as the background and then of course you have Godzilla himself - who is made up of the body of the creature as seen in the film with a different head. His left hand as you can see is actually painted to illustrate the monster crushing an airplane. Fire and Japanese fighter planes were added to top things off and make the image more dramatic.
Movie fans and history buffs alike will note that the planes in this image are propeller driven A6M Zeros that the Japanese used during the Second World War, yet the planes used in actual movie are F-86 Sabre jets.
The white eyes are a nice touch as well.
As you look over the following photos you will see all kinds of stuff fused together. I'm not going to take the time to point out everything, I think that you will have fun discovering things on your own.
When American reporter Steve Martin investigates a series of mysterious disasters off the coast of Japan, he comes face to face with an ancient creature so powerful and so terrifying, it can reduce Tokyo to a smoldering graveyard. Nuclear weapon testing resurrected this relic from the Jurassic age, and now it's rampaging across Japan. At night, Godzilla wades through Tokyo leaving death and destruction in his wake, disappearing into Tokyo Bay when his rage subsides. Coventional weapons are useless against him; but renowned scientist Dr. Serizawa has discovered a weapon that could destroy all life in the bay -- including Godzilla. But which disaster is worse, Godzilla's fury, or the death of Tokyo Bay? - IMDB
