I know that I am starting to sound like a broken record but there is more equipment out there that once belonged to the mighty Santa Fe than one would imagine.
Over the last month I have posted two photo galleries featuring ex Santa Fe GP60s in and around the BNSF yard in La Mirada, Ca. On this spring day however a trip out to the Mojave desert provided yet more examples of the ATSF liniage still going strong on the BNSF some 20 plus years after the line merged with the Burlington Northern.
Example one, a Warbonnet Dash-9 on the head end of a freight at Edwards Air Force Base. The letting may say BNSF but the paint says Santa Fe.
Example two, another BNSF mixed freight on the outskirts of Edwards that is being powered by two ex Santa Fe four-motors, including yet another GP60M, and another in the railroads old navy and yellow.
Example three, yet more ex Santa Fe power switching cars outside the Rio Tinto borax plant in Boron, Ca. This five locomotive set includes two SD40-2's, a SD45-2, and of course a GP60 and a GP60M. What do I spy at the rear of this train? An ex Santa Fe caboose!
The Santa Fe may be gone but it's "ghosts" are still thriving on the BNSF here in California!
Enjoy these pics!:
